PARTICLEBOARD CORE

Interior/Exterior

Sec. 2.A.a..jpgA rugged construction consisting of hardwood veneers permanently bonded to crossbands, frame and core. The precision made core is composed entirely of wood particles which provides a stress free foundation and a completely smooth, uniform surface free of any voids, knots or patches that could show through the finish.

QUALITY STANDARDS:

Premium Grade conforming to or exceeding WDMA Industry Standard I.S. 1-A and Architectural Woodwork Institute Standards for type PC5 or FD 1/3, as tested per A.S.T.M. E-152 “Fire Test of Door Assemblies” performed by Warnock Hersey International.

9/0 high, (8/0x9/0 opening)

Thickness

1-3/8" (±1/16") unrated
1-3/4" (±1/16") (20 minute).

FRAME COMPONENTS:

Stiles - (Before Trim or Prefit)* one piece, clear, matching/compatible hardwood face laminated, SCL back, for painting or staining. 1-1/4" total width. Minimum specific gravity of 0.39 for stile face and back. Contact factory for other options.

Rails - (Before Trim or Prefit)*(Before Trim or Prefit)* 1-3/4" SCL one piece.

INTERIOR BLOCKING:

Not generally required for fire rated or non-fire rated applications. In some applications the addition of optional solid wood blocking may be needed due to hardware specifications.

CORE:

Wood particleboard door core to meet or exceed American National Standard ANSI/A208.1 for 1-LD-1 or 1-LD-2 door core. Exceeds requirements for 20 minute construction authority.

FACES:

All veneer species as available meeting AWI or WDMA visual grading rules as specified, MDO, or HPL Type I or II bond as specified.

ASSEMBLY:

Frame and core are uniformly sized to a thickness of 1-1/2" (±.015"). Core and frame components are assembled to meet or exceed 20 minute specifications.

ADHESIVE:

Type I or Type II bond, by specification, between faces and core/frame components.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Extra heavy duty available.

LABEL AUTHORITY:

May be labeled and classified by Warnock Hersey International or Underwriters Laboratories as a 20 minute fire/smoke barrier. Restrictions on machining and architectural accessories or application are per governing authority.

STC RATING:

Doors with this type of construction have been tested and received the following STC ratings:
NonGasketed–STC 24
Gasketed–STC 31

* Fire labeled doors may not be refit in the field if already factory prefit sized. If not factory prefit for length, maximum field trim is 3/4" from the bottom only per NFPA-80, 1986, Fire Doors, Chapter 1-3.5

STRUCTURAL COMPOSITE LUMBER CORE

Interior

Sec. 2.A.b..jpgAn all-purpose door of five ply construction. Hardwood veneers are permanently bonded to crossband, wood slab, and frame. The core consists of Structural Composite Lumber that utilizes wood strands from a variety of tree species providing an alternative to dimension lumber. The material is engineered for strength and stability. While not really “lumber” it is marketed as a lumber substitute, to be used primarily in place of stave lumber core materials. SCL is tested under a number of ASTM and other test criteria. The precision surface core provides a smooth stratum for the hardwood doorskins.

QUALITY STANDARDS:

Premium Grade conforming to or exceeding WDMA Industry Standard I.S. 1-A and Architectural Woodwork Institute Standards for type SCL or FD 1/3, as tested per A.S.T.M. E-152 “Fire Test of Door Assemblies” performed by Warnock Hersey International.
